It's been a long effin life

Geddy Lee was born and raised in Canada to Holocaust survivor parents, who later inspired one of Rush's songs, Red Sector A. He was a musician from an early age, learning how to play multiple instruments from the age of ten. He joined Rush in their founding year, replacing original bassist and vocalist Jeff Jones. Many musicians cite him as a major inspiration, including Iron Maiden's Steve Harris, Tim Commerford of Rage Against the Machine, and Metallica's Cliff Burton.

Geddy is so down to earth - Super enjoyable night!

I had so much fun at The Met Philadelphia on November 15. Loved the set up. They rotated from standing to sitting in upholstered chairs with a livingroom feel, Geddy read portions of the book (very eloquently I should add). The stories were poignant, funny, inspiring, and they sat on stools close to the audience, andI took time for presubmitted questions. It was very cool. They spotlighted the person after the question was read, and then Geddy answered it in very detailed manner. Throughout the entire show, I was amazed by Geddy’s openness and honesty. He became very emotional at times, especially when speaking about Neil. He has a fantastic sense of humor, and his smile just lights up his entire face, bit especially his eyes. I think he really likes being in front of people again, and he now accepts the love and caring that his, fans throw out to him unlike the past where he didn’t seem to trust the sentiments — almost like he felt he couldn’t trust them. ... Groovy Geddy Lee Rocks The Beacon

Masterfully overseen by special guest / interviewer and obvious fanboy Paul Rudd, Lee spun off many tales of his life and times from growing up through his decision to write his hefty, 510-page memoir (which every attendee got free at the door). Lee alternated numerous life stories from his humble beginnings through the glory years of Rush, easily moving between insightful, poignant, humbling and funny anecdotes. Seeing this show is a must for any fan of his or of the band. It seemed like most of the crowd were acolytes who were salivating on every tale of his. Particularly moving were his discussions about drummer Neil Peart dealing with his final illness. One intermission. It did not feel either rushed (no pun intended) or over blown. Just perfect. ...
